It’s Expensive To Miss That Opportunity

“So then, as occasion and opportunity open up to us, let us do good [morally] to all people [not only being useful or profitable to the, but also doing what is for their spiritual good and advantage]. Be mindful to be a blessing, especially to those of the household of faith [those who belong to God’s family with you, the believers].”
(Galatians 6:10)

I woke up this morning thinking about Abraham and the OPPORTUNITY he had to impress the angels who came to his household who unknown to him were there for his good. He would have missed such a high chance of a lifetime if he had ignored his August visitors.

opportunity doesn’t announce itself

Prospect doesn’t announce itself, so those men came in unannounced. Praise God! Abraham did not miss the lifetime opportunity that ushered in his change. My thought was not accidental, I later discovered that ” OPPORTUNITY” is the writing prompt for this week over at Five Minute Friday. Oh yeah! I’m in tune with what the Spirit is saying.

So, Abraham saw an opportunity to show hospitality, and he did not miss it. (Genesis 18:1-13) We later read in the scriptures –

“Do not forget or neglect or refuse to extend hospitality to strangers [in the brotherhood–being friendly, cordial, and gracious, sharing the comforts of your home and doing your part generously], for through it some have entertained angels without knowing it.” (Hebrews 13:2)

Have you been looking down or ignoring certain people because they don’t fit into the perfect picture of people to help or associate with? Please, change!

God does not tell us the way He is going to solve our problems but will always orchestrate our situations and steps to usher us into that desired change. Think about it; had it been Joseph had missed the opportunity to use his gift of dream interpretation to help the butler he would probably have rotten in prison but that opportunity was not lost. It eventually created the pathway to his FREEDOM. ( Genesis 39 -41)

I cannot recount how many times I have had to help people who I’d never met in my life only to discover later that they know someone that I know or they happened to be a distant relative. For the most part, also people who later became supportive are the same people I have supported in the past. Hey! It may not always be the case. One thing is sure whatever a man sows he will reap. That is KARMA, right there.

Recently a friend called to ask to be my house guest for a weekend, and she was coming with another guest , a stranger to me and I said okay. Lo and behold immediately they entered my apartment, my friend’s guest saw a new machine I just bought for a business, and she shouted.” O my God, I have a smaller of this. ” She quickly went into action to set my machine and gave me hands-on training, for the whole weekend. We ran to stores together to get all the needful resources. In the end, the drive from Ohio to Chicago was more beneficial to me than to them. What an opportunity to have missed!

Opportunities are moments set for you, unknown to you to make something happen, to create a change. So what do you and I need to do to cease most opportunity as it comes our way? We have to be discerning and sensitive to our environment and seasons.

” [Even the migratory birds are punctual to their seasons.] Yes, the stork [excelling in the great height of her flight] in the heavens knows her appointed times [of migration], and the turtledove, the swallow, and the crane observe the time of their return. But My people do not know the law of the Lord [which the lower animals instinctively recognize in so far as it applies to them].” Jeremiah 8:7

It is not enough to sense it but also be responsive to it. ACT!

NOW !

Don’t postpone doing good. Who knows, your Angels on assignment may have arrived disguised as the needy. Elijah and the story of the widow just dropped into my spirit. (1 Kings 17)

There is nothing that is news to God, for that your challenge He has a perfect plan for the solution which may be an opportunity to do good to the known and unknown.

If you have been doing good ( helping others, giving to causes, opening your house for strangers, visiting and helping those incapacitated, praying for others, ministering to others and all other good stuff) don’t stop!

Pray

Father, open my eyes to see the opportunity to do good, to create right impression and to impact lives positively. Grant me the grace and the boldness to do what I have to do, moment by moment, in Jesus’ name. (Amen)
